Amanda Rose Gardner

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Friday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church for Amanda Rose “Mandy” Gardner, 16, Topeka, who was found dead Tuesday, April 27, 1993, in Topeka.

Topeka police are investigating the death as a homicide.

She was born October 8, 1976, in Topeka, the daughter of marvin D. and Irene Schiefelbein Gardner. She was graduated in 1990 from St. Matthew’s Church Grade School, had attended Hayden High School and currently was a sophomore at Highland Park High School.

Miss Gardner was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, St. Matthew’s Youth Group and had been involved with Junior Achievement and 4-H. She was a cashier at McDonald’s restaurant at hypermart.

Survivors include her parents, Marvin and Irene Gardner, Topeka; two sisters, Renee Gardner and Tracy Gardner, both of Topeka; a brother, Marvin D. Gardner Jr., at home; and a grandfather, Marvin E. “Cotton” Gardner, Topeka.

Burial will be in Topeka Cemetery. Miss Gardner will lie in state after 4 p.m. today at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, where rosaries will be recited by Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 at 6 p.m., Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle No. 503 at 6:30 p.m. and the parish at 7 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone, Sheltered Living, Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens, or St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Brennan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
