LaVerna E. ManisLaVerna E. Manis, 90, of Topeka passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. LaVerna was born July 3, 1921 in Topeka the daughter of Eben and Frances Porter Rutledge. She was a lifelong resident of Topeka. She had worked many years ago at Bobo Drive Inn, later Frederick Plant Farm and then Ray Christian Jewelers. She loved to garden, was a great cook and loved helping take care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was married to Harold E. Manis in November of 1939. He passed away in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her son, Harold W. Manis in 1999 and five brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon A. McHargue and husband William of Osceola, MO; son, Lowell B. Manis of Topeka; grandchildren, Michael "Tony" DeBernardin, Sheryl Speier and husband Steve and Karen Cooper all of Topeka and Donna Worthley of Osceola; brother, Eben Rutledge, Jr. of Topeka; sister, Vivian Mansfield of Cullom, Illinois and six great-grandchildren.
She will lie in state from 10-5 on Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, Oct. 20th at Davidson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10-11 Thursday morning prior to the service. Interment will be held at Topeka Cemetery. The family invites friends to Sheryl Speier's home following the graveside service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund at Topeka Cemetery.
